50.2 % or 4 million 820.2 thousand women are formed the total number of population to the beginning of the February, 2014.
57.1% of women have ability for the fertility and at average each 10 women gave birth to 20 children. From 170.57 thousand of infants born last year 46.4% was a girl.
One of the most important issues in the mind of government is the protection of women health. At the moment there are 21 maternity hospitals, 152 maternity welfare clinics, 282 children's polyclinics and ambulatory in the country and life expectancy between women is 5.2 years more than men and it is equal to 76.8 years.
Specific weight of women taking active part in the social-economical life of Azerbaijan in total number of employed population is 48.4%. 76.6% of teachers in general education institutions are women, 75.1% - secondary specialized educational institutions, 48.8% - institutions of higher education and 64.9% of doctors are women. 45.8% of pupils in general education institutions, 67.4% of pupils in secondary specialized educational institutions, 48.5% of students studying in high schools are girls.
There is also an important role of women in the development of science. 50.0% of doctoral candidates, 53.2 % of all scientists are formed women. In the last 5 year number of women with the degree of doctor of science increased by 1.9 times and number of women with the degree of doctor of philosophy 1.7 times. 11 of correspondent members of Azerbaijan National Academy and 3 of academicians are women.
Special weight of women between the employees of Civil Servant is 27.7%, between the owners is 19.0%. 40.2% of sportsmen are women.
Number of deputy woman in Milli Majlis is also increased. If the 4.3 % of all deputies formed women in 1990, 10.7% in 2000, today special weight of women in Parliament reached to 15.6%.
In the last election of Municipality number of women elected as a member of municipality increased by 6 times compared to previous elections reached to 5236 persons and between the municipality members their special weight was 35.0%. This indicator was 4.0% in previous municipality elections.
One of the most interesting factors is the increasing of number of women driving cars year by year. So in 2005 their number was 2285 persons and in 2014 it was reached to 10278 persons.
Thus, women of Azerbaijan actively take part as full-fledged members of society in the social, economic and public-policy life.
