Foreign trade relations
In January-July 2025, legal and natural entities of the Republic of Azerbaijan carried out trade operations with their partners in 169 countries of the world, exported goods to 111 countries and imported from 162 countries.
Taking into account the statistically estimated value of crude oil and natural gas exported but not yet fully cleared through customs, the foreign trade turnover of the country in January-July 2025 amounted to 28187,3 million USD. Of this, 14572,5 million USD or 51.7 percent accounted for exports, while 13614,8 million USD (48.3 percent) accounted for imports, resulting in a positive trade balance of 957,7 million USD. Compared to January-July 2024, foreign trade turnover increased by 7.4 percent at current prices and decreased by 5.1 percent in real terms. Imports increased by 1.2 percent in real terms, while exports decreased by 9.6 percent.
In January-July 2025, exports of non-oil and gas products amounted to 2088,0 million USD, which represents a 11.4 percent increase at current prices and a 11.8 percent decrease in real terms compared to January-July 2024.
According to data from the State Customs Committee, 26.0 percent of the country’s foreign trade turnover was with Italy, 11.7 percent Türkiye, 10.6 percent Russia, 8.7 percent China, 3.1 percent each Germany and United Kingdom, 2.6 percent USA, 2.1 percent Czechia, 1.8 percent Kazakhstan, 1.6 percent each Georgia, Bulgaria and Croatia, 1.5 percent each Greece, Romania and Switzerland, 1.4 percent Portugal, 1.3 percent Australia, 1.2 percent Iran, 1.0 percent each Ukraine, Mexico and South Africa, 0.9 percent Uzbekistan, and 13.2 percent other countries.
47.3 percent of exports went to Italy, 13.2 percent to Türkiye, 4.7 percent to Russia, 3.6 percent to the Czech Republic, 3.0 percent to Bulgaria and Croatia, 2.7 percent Greece, 2.5 percent each to Romania, Germany, Portugal and Georgia, 1.6 percent to Switzerland, 1.4 percent to the United Kingdom, 0.9 percent to Netherlands, 1.1 percent to Ireland, 0.8 percent each to Ukraine, 0.7 percent to Serbia, 0.5 percent each to Thailand and Indonesia, 0.4 percent to Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, Denmark, China , and 3.0 percent to other countries.
In the structure of non-oil and gas product exports, the main shares were: Russia (34.3 percent), Türkiye (16.3 percent), Georgia (8.8 percent), Switzerland (8.9 percent), Ukraine (5.3 percent), the United Arab Emirates (3.0 percent), Kazakhstan (2.9 percent), the USA (2.0 percent), Belarus (2.2 percent), Turkmenistan (1.7 percent), Uzbekistan (1.7 percent), Italy (1.2 percent), China (1.1 percent).
In the total value of imported goods, 18.0 percent China, 17.2 percent Russia, 10.1 percent Türkiye, 5.3 percent USA, 4.9 percent United Kingdom, 3.8 percent Germany, 3.4 percent Kazakhstan, 2.7 percent Australia, 2.5 percent Iran, 2.2 percent Italy, 2.0 percent each Mexico and South Africa, 1.7 percent each Uzbekistan and Brazil, 1.6 percent Japan, 1.5 percent Korea, 1.4 percent Belarus, 1.3 percent Switzerland, 1.2 percent Ukraine, 1.1 percent each Canada and France, 1.0 percent each Spain and India, and 11.3 percent other countries.
In January-July 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year, exports of the following main products increased: fresh fruit– 41.8 percent, fresh vegetables – 14.8 percent, sugar – 66.6 percent, potatoes – 46.8 percent, cigarettes – 7.7 percent, vegetable oils – 26.5 percent, tea – 7.9 percent, mineral fertilizers – 10.0 percent, polyethylene – 15.6 percent, unprocessed aluminum – 19.1 percent, cement clinkers – 28.0 percent, cotton yarn – 28.2 percent, pipes of ferrous metals – 24.0 percent. . At the same time, exports of fruit and vegetable juices decreased by 8.0 percent, fruit and vegetable preserves – 14.5 percent, tobacco – 49.1 percent, margarine and other mixtures suitable for food – 33.5 percent, natural grape wines and grape must – 38.7 percent, cotton fiber – 10.9 percent, polypropylene – 4.9 percent, electricity – 21.6 percent, bars of ferrous metals – 17.6 percent, bentonite clay – 12.4 percent .
Compared to January-July 2024, imports in January-July 2025 increased as follows: wheat– 40.3 percent, butter, other diary fats and pastes – 3.6 percent, raw sugar – 21.4 percent, chocolate and chocolate products – 0.9 percent, potatoes – 20.2 percent, fresh vegetables – 34.0 percent, cigarettes – 4.2 times, passenger cars – 26.1 percent, rolled steel – 5.1 percent, household air conditioners – 20.0 percent, rubber tires – 10.2 percent, furniture – 0.2 percent, bars of ferrous metals – 21.2 percent, polyethylene – 10.4 percent, washing machines – 6.8 percent, buses – 2.3 times, household refrigerators – 21.7 percent . Meanwhile, imports of vegetable oils– 13.8 percent, fresh fruits – 16.7 percent, flour confectionery products – 3.4 percent, tea – 6.3 percent, poultry meat and its by-products – 20.6 percent, beef – 12.9 percent, pharmaceutical products – 14.9 percent, pipes of ferrous metals – 24.0 percent, computing machines, blocks and devices – 5.5 percent, trucks – 0.5 percent, synthetic detergents – 6.5 percent, mineral fertilizers – 0.3 percent, polypropylene – 0.5 percent, angles of ferrous metals – 3.5 percent, cement – 21.7 percent.
