The 20th session of the Governing Council of the United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP) and the 9th session of the Committee on Statistics of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) were held

On December 9-13, 2024, the 20th session of the Governing Council of the United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific and the 9th session of the Committee on Statistics of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific were held in Bangkok, Thailand. The events were attended by the First Deputy Chairman of the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Vahab Mammadov.  

During the 20th session of the Governing Council, the activity report of the Institute for 2024 were reviewed, and several issues were addressed, including the strategic plan for 2025–2029. At the 9th session of the Committee on Statistics, discussions focused on achievements in implementing the Declaration on the use of data to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) principle of “Leaving No One Behind.” Additionally, priorities were reviewed for implementing the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development." The events were held as part of "Asia-Pacific Statistics Week 2024," organized under the theme "Power of Data."

Within the framework of the event, Mr. Vahab Mammadov met with Ms, Shailja Sharma, Director of the UN Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific. During the meeting, he provided information about Azerbaijan's socio-economic development, ongoing reforms in the statistical system, and reconstruction efforts in territories liberated from occupation. It was noted that these initiatives significantly impact the country's economy and improve people's social living conditions and that statistical observations now cover all regions of the country.

Additionally, bilateral discussions were held with high-level representatives of statistical agencies from Turkey, China, Vietnam, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan to explore potential areas of cooperation.
