On February 26, the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan held an event dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.

At the event, the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was performed first, followed by a minute of silence in honor of our martyrs who perished in the tragedy.

The participants noted that on the night of February 25-26, 1992, the Armenian armed forces violated all norms of international law, deployed heavy military equipment against the civilian population of the besieged city of Khojaly, and seized the city with unprecedented cruelty, barbarously razing it to the ground. It was stated that the tragedy committed in the city of Khojaly was a new bloody chapter in the policy of aggression and ethnic cleansing carried out by Armenian chauvinists against Azerbaijanis in the South Caucasus. Due to its scale and severity, it was considered the most horrific of the crimes committed, and the genocide perpetrated by Armenians in Khojaly at the end of the 20th century has been recognized as one of the gravest crimes against humanity to this day. It was emphasized that for many years, bringing the truth about the Khojaly tragedy to the attention of the international community, systematically working towards its recognition as genocide, and ensuring that the Khojaly tragedy committed by Armenians against the Azerbaijani people was acknowledged and recognized worldwide as an act of genocide became possible thanks to the efforts of the great leader Heydar Aliyev.

It was stated at the event that under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Army liberated our lands during the 2020 Patriotic War, putting an end to 30 years of occupation. Those responsible for the Khojaly genocide and other crimes against civilians were held accountable on the battlefield.

The city of Khojaly was cleared of separatists as a result of local anti-terror measures carried out by the Azerbaijani Army in Karabakh on September 19-20, 2023. On October 15, 2023, President Ilham Aliyev raised the national flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the city of Khojaly and, on February 25, 2025, signed a decree on the establishment of the Khojaly Genocide Memorial Complex. Today, as in all liberated territories, reconstruction and development work has begun in Khojaly, with restoration and rehabilitation efforts underway, and residents returning to their homeland.

At the end of the event, a film dedicated to the Khojaly genocide was screened.
