Tahir Budagov, Chairman of the State Statistical Committee is visiting Viet Nam

A delegation led by Tahir Budagov, Chairman of the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid an official visit to the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam at the invitation of Nguyen Thi Huong, Director General of the National Statistics Office of Viet Nam.

Within the framework of the visit, the delegation paid tribute to the national leader of the Vietnamese people, Ho Chi Minh, by visiting his mausoleum, museum, and former residence. Photos depicting Ho Chi Minh’s visit to Azerbaijan in 1959 and the visit of the national leader Heydar Aliyev to Viet Nam in 1983, during his tenure as First Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, were presented to the museum on behalf of the delegation.

A meeting was held between Tahir Budagov and To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam. The meeting highlighted the deep historical roots of Azerbaijan–Viet Nam relations and the longstanding friendship between the two nations that were established during the Soviet period. The parties emphasized the historical significance of the visit of national leader of the Vietnamese people, Ho Chi Minh to Azerbaijan in 1959 and the visit of the national leader Heydar Aliyev to Viet Nam in 1983 as First Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR.

To Lam recalled his visit to Azerbaijan in May of last year and expressed anticipation for the upcoming visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party, Ilham Aliyev, to Viet Nam. It was noted that the adoption of the Joint Declaration on the establishment of a strategic partnership has elevated bilateral relations to a qualitatively new stage.

Tahir Budagov noted that personal friendship between the leaders plays an important role in advancing bilateral relations and stressed the importance of expanding cooperation across various fields, including collaboration between the statistical authorities of the two countries.

The importance of cooperation between the ruling political parties in the development of Azerbaijan–Viet Nam relations was underlined, with the successful implementation of the provisions of the Cooperation Agreement signed in 2023 being noted.

During the meeting between the delegation and Nguyen Thi Huong, Director General of the National Statistics Office of Viet Nam, the parties stated that Azerbaijan and Viet Nam are friendly and partner countries that respect each other’s interests, and expressed satisfaction with the positive dynamics of bilateral relations. Emphasizing their mutual interest in expanding cooperation in economic-trade, cultural, humanitarian, educational, tourism, energy, and other areas, particular attention was paid to the implementation of the “Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of statistics” between the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the National Statistics Office of Viet Nam, highlighting its role in enhancing the exchange of internationally comparable statistical data and strengthening interstate cooperation.   

Within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding, a Work Plan for              2026–2028 in the field of statistics was signed. The Work Plan is expected to further strengthen institutional cooperation in the field of statistics.

In addition, a meeting was held with Nguyen Minh Vu, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam, during which views were exchanged on the current state of bilateral relations and prospects for their further development.
