Cabinet of Ministers discussed issued related to the conduction of the 2029 population census in Azerbaijan
On 17 July, an extended meeting dedicated to issues related to the conduction of the 2029 population census in the Republic of Azerbaijan was held at the Cabinet of Ministers under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Ali Asadov.
During the meeting, issues of implementation of the tasks arising from the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, dated July 7, 2026 “On Conducting the Population Census in the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2029”, as well as preparations for and the conduction of the census.
Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister A. Asadov emphasized the importance of the population census as the most comprehensive source of population data, highlighting its vital role in objectively assessing demographic trends and planning the country’s socio-economic development.
It was noted that the next population census, to be conducted in 2029, would be of particular historical significance.
“For the first time in the history of independent Azerbaijan, following the historic Victory achieved by the glorious Azerbaijan Army in the Patriotic War under the wise leadership of President and Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, and after the full restoration of the country’s sovereignty, the nationwide population census will be conducted across the entire sovereign territory of Azerbaijan,” - A. Asadov said.
It was stated that, in order to ensure the implementation of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Cabinet of Ministers will approve an appropriate Action Plan and establish a Central Commission for Assistance with the Population Census, to be chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, to coordinate the activities of central and local executive authorities, agencies, institutions and organizations, in preparing for and conducting the population census.
It was emphasized that the population census, to be organized in accordance with the relevant requirements and recommendations of United Nations, as well as national priorities, is planned to be conducted for the first time using digital technologies, administrative data and geospatial information.
Thereafter, Chairman of the State Statistical Committee Azer Mursagulov delivered a presentation on the activities to be carried out in preparation for the population census.
Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev made a presentation on the activities to be undertaken to integrate the relevant data available in the information resources and systems of the competent state authorities (institutions) into the database of the State Statistical Committee.
Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister A. Asadov instructed the relevant state authorities to ensure the timely, high-quality and well-coordinated implementation of the tasks arising from the Decree of the President, as well as necessary measures for preparing for and conducting the population census.
