Training Program for Strengthening Statistical Capacity: Improving Population Statistics held in Daejeon, Republic of Korea
Representative of the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sitara Babayeva – Leading Adviser of the Department of Population and Gender Statistics participated in the training Program for Strengthening Statistical Capacity: Improving Population Statistics organized by Statistical Training Institute on 3-14 November, 2014 in Daejeon, Republic of Korea.
Representatives of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Bolivia, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Egypt, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Mongolia, Timor-Lest and Pakistan and Statistical Services of South Korea participated in th training program.
The aim of the program was to improve population statistics by understanding demographic and migration statistics, models for fertility, mortality and migration and population projections, and by conducting an in-depth study with relevant subjects. The lectures have done by Dr. Giampalo LANZIERI who works at Eurostat.
At the beginning of the training program every participant presented presentation for 15 minutes about their country and institution. Our representative S. Babayeva in her presentation gave information about our country, Statistical System of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as population and gender statistics and others.
This two-week program was comprised of three parts: lectures, research and presentation, and field trip. The details of the program were as follows:

- Demographic and migration statistics I: definitions, international recommendations, basic measures and indicators;
- Demographic and migration statistics II: additional indicators, estimates, population models;
- Models for fertility, mortality and migration;
- Population projections
• Research and Presentation
• Field Trip
At the end of the training program Mr. Yangtae Son - Head of International Department on Statistical Relations of KOSTAT on Statistics expressed his attitude to the participants and wished them success in this field and presented certificate to each participants who successfully completed the training program.
