Demographic situation in Azerbaijan

Last year number of population of the Republic of Azerbaijan was 115.9 thousand person or it was increased by 1.2% and became 9593.0 thousand person at the beginning of 2015.
In 2014total growth on number of population was mainly due to natural increase. As well as, increase in migration was observed and this factor was formed 0.9% of total population growth.
Density of the country population made 111 persons for per square km. 53.1% of population live in urban areas and 46.9% in rural areas, 49.8% of population was men, 50.2% - women and there are 1009 women per 1000 men.
In the recent years the birth rate remains the highest in the country, last year number of births in Azerbaijan was 114.9 thousand persons more than the number of deaths. So, 17.5 thousand infant were born in 2014, this indicator was formed 18.1% of per 1000 person. 53.6% of births were boys, 46.4% - girls. 3148 of infants were twins, 60 – triplets.
On average 2.2 born children are per the share of reproductive women in the country and that provides reproduction of population.
During the last year 55.6 thousand deaths were registered in the country and by the account of per 1000 person number of deaths were formed 5.9.
84.9 thousand marriages and 12.1 thousand divorce were registered in the country during 2014 and by the account of per 1000 person number of this indicator correspondingly became 9.0 and 1.3.
Successful implementation of the state policy aimed at solving the problems of youth in the country, creating new jobs and attraction of young people to the economy seriously affected to the positive migration balance during the recent years. 1.9 thousand persons came to Azerbaijan for permanent residence and 0.8 thousand person left the country were registered by the corresponding authorities of Ministry of Internal Affairs and State Migration Service in 2014.
