Chairman of the State Statistical Committee Tahir Budagov met with Regional Director of UNICEF
Chairman of the State Statistical Committee of the Republic Azerbaijan Tahir Budagov has met with the delegation headed by Afshan Khan, Regional Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) for Europe and Central Asia. UNICEF Representative in Azerbaijan Edward Carvardine, Child Rights Monitoring Specialist Tamerlan Rajabov, the third secretary of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the UN Office in Geneva Aydan Muradova also participated in the meeting. The current situation of cooperation between the State Statistical Committee and UNICEF, future prospects and priorities are discussed.
Chairman of the State Statistical Committee Tahir Budagov, who welcomed the delegation, said that as a result of the successful socio-economic development strategy of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, serious work has been carried out to diversify the economy, the non-oil sector is rapidly developing and, as a clear example of this, yearly advances in Azerbaijan's competitiveness. He said its position was highly valued by international financial institutions. He noted that the result of the targeted reforms is that in recent years, the stable, rapid, dynamic development trend in the Azerbaijani economy has already become vividly demonstrated. Tahir Budagov gave detailed information on the state policy carried out in the country, the improvement of the national statistical system, the international cooperation of the State Statistical Committee, the implemented projects and programs.
It was noted that the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan which started its activity with UNICEF in Azerbaijan since 1993, has links to various fields of statistics. As a consequence, last year, the Joint Statement of Work was signed between the Statistical Committee and UNICEF in Azerbaijan on "Improvement of Statistics on Child Disability and Child Deprivation Joint Work Plan 2016-2017".
During the meeting, the sides discussed issues related to the development of cooperation between the State Statistical Committee and UNICEF, as well as other issues of mutual interest.
