In 2017, Azerbaijan received from 187 countries of the world 2696.7 thousand or 19.9% more foreigners and stateless persons compared to last year. Aim of the most of arrivals was tourism. 31.7% of the arrivals were from the Russian Federation, 20.0% - Georgia, 13.5% - Iran, 11.2% - Turkey, 3.8% - the United Arab Emirates, 2.3% - Iraq, 2.1% - Ukraine, 15.3% were citizens of other countries, and 0.1 percent were stateless people. 64.9% of the arrivals were men and 35.1% were women. 5.9% of foreigners and stateless persons came to the country in January, 5.7% - February, 9.1% - March, 6.9% - April, 7.8% - May, 9.0% - June, 11.7% - July, 11.4% - August, 9.4% - September, 7.6% - October, 7.5% - November, and 8.0% in December.

There has been a significant increase in the number of visitors from the Gulf countries. Compared to last year, the number of Kuwait citizens arriving in Azerbaijan has increased for 9.7 times, the number of citizens of Oman - 7.4 times, Saudi Arabia - 4.5 times, Bahrain - 3.6 times, the number of citizens of the United Arab Emirates and Qatar - 2.4 times, the number of Iranian citizens - 1.5 times. The total number of arrivals from the Gulf countries has increased by 65.2% and amounted to 614.7 thousand persons.

The number of persons who came to Azerbaijan from other countries also increased. Thus, in 2017, the number of arrivals from EU members increased by 17.4% and amounted to 105.4 thousand, and from the CIS countries increased by 14.3% and amounted to 1006.5 thousand.

During this period, 56.6% of foreigners and stateless persons who came to our country used railway and automobile, 42.7% - air and 0.7% - water transport.

The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan going abroad in 2017 decreased by 4.0% compared to the last year and amounted to 4108.9 thousand persons. 33.4% of the country citizens travelled to Georgia, 23.4% - Iran, 22.5% - Russian Federation, 14.6% - Turkey, 1.6% - Ukraine, 1.0% - United Arab Emirates, 3.5% to other countries. 67.6% of the travellers were men and 32.4% were women.

79.6% of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited foreign countries using railway and automobile, 20.1% - air and 0.3% - water transport.
