Development of tourism
According to the State Border Service data, in January-June 2018, Azerbaijan received from 189 countries of the world 1325.0 thousand or 10.2% more foreigners and stateless persons compared to the same period of last year. 30.5% of the arrivals were from the Russian Federation, 21.1% - Georgia, 11.1% - Iran, 10.8% - Turkey, 3.6% - the United Arab Emirates, 2.1% - Iraq, 2.0% - Ukraine, 18.7% were citizens of other countries and 0.1 percent were stateless people. 68.5% of the arrivals were men and 31.5% were women. 14.1% of foreigners and stateless persons came to our country in January, 12.5% in February, 20.9% in March, 16.5% in April, 15.7% in May and 20.3% in June.
There has been a significant increase in the number of visitors from the Gulf countries (except Iran) in January-June 2018. Compared to January-June of last year, the number of Kuwait citizens arriving in Azerbaijan has increased for 5.1 times, Saudi Arabia – 3.5 times, Bahrain – 2.6 times, Qatar - 2.1 times, Oman – 1.6 times, Iraq – 44.3% and the number of citizens of the United Arab Emirates – 8.8%. The number of arrivals from Iran decreased by 18.8%. The total number of visitors from the Gulf countries increased by 4.9% and amounted to 276.6 thousand person, and in general, one out of every five person came to our country was from the Gulf countries.
In January-June 2018, the number of arrivals from EU members increased by 6.3% and amounted to 53.5 thousand, and from the CIS countries increased by 7.5% and amounted to 478.3 thousand person.
59.9% of foreigners and stateless persons who came to our country used railway and automobile, 39.2% - air and 0.9% - water transport.
The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan going abroad in January-June 2018 increased by 6.3% compared to same period of last year and amounted 2019.8 thousand person. 30.7% of the country citizens traveled to Georgia, 28.7% - Iran, 21.2% - Russian Federation, 12.7% - Turkey, 1.7% - Ukraine, 1.2% - United Arab Emirates, 3.8% to other countries. 68.8% of the travelers were men and 31.2% were women.
During this period, the number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveling to Iran increased by 22.8%, 6.8% – Turkey, 0.7% - Georgia and the number of people going to the Russian Federation decreased by 2.6%.
In January-June 2018, 80.2% of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited foreign countries using railway and automobile, 18.9% - air and 0.9% - water transport.
