Conference on “Strengthening ICT and Human Capacity in the Production of Official Statistics” was held in Baku

Conference on “Strengthening ICT and Human Capacity in the Production of Official Statistics” was held in joint cooperation between the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Statistics Korea (KOSTAT) in Baku on 11 December, 2019. 

Participants of the Conference first visited the alley of Honour to pay tribute to the founder of our independent state, national leader of our people Heydar Aliyev and laid a wreath at his grave.

Mr. Tahir Budagov, Chairman of the State Statistical Committee, Mr. Shin-wook Kang, Chairman of KOSTAT, Mr. Ramin Guluzade, Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, Mr. Tong-op Kim, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea in Azerbaijan made their opening speeches.   

It was noted that, two projects were implemented between the State Statistical Committee and KOSTAT to strengthen the statistical capacity in Azerbaijan in 2018-2019. Within the framework of the first project, the current state and needs of the State Statistical Committee on statistics and information technologies were analysed, 2 server equipment was installed in the Committee and a user – oriented “Azerbaijan Statistical Information Service - ASIS” statistical data dissemination system was developed and put into use in accordance with international standards in the field of official statistical data dissemination. At the expense of the second project, a 31-seat training room supplied with modern information technology equipment was established in the Committee, trainings were held for 34 employees of the Committee in the Republic of Korea and more than 50 employees in Azerbaijan to get acquainted with KOSTAT's experience in the field of economic and social statistics, at the same time, modular training programs on various fields of statistics were developed for Azerbaijan.

Meanwhile, presentations on “Modernization of statistics – Korean experience”, “Organizing official statistical data production processes in the State Statistical Committee: implemented reforms and new challenges”, “Module-type statistical training programs”, “Overview of the project jointly implemented by the State Statistical Committee and Statistics Korea” were made.

At the same time, the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the field of statistics between the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Statistics Korea was held. Mr Tahir Budagov, Chairman of the State Statistical Committee and Mr Shin-wook Kang, Commissioner of KOSTAT signed the Memorandum of Understanding.
