Foreign trade relations

On January-April 2020 legal and natural entities of the Republic of Azerbaijan realized trade operations with their partners in 161 countries of the world, goods were exported to 96 countries and imported from 149 countries.

Taking into account value of statistically estimated exported crude oil and natural gas registered in the customs agencies but customs formalities of which not completed the foreign trade turnover of the country on January-April 2020 made 8180,5 million USD. 4798,7 million USD or 58,7% of trade turnover made the export value, 3381,8 (41,3%) million USD – import value and consequently positive trade balance reached to 1416,9 million USD. In comparison with January-April 2019 foreign trade turnover decreased in actual price by 25,5 %, in real terms by 17,1 %, including import – 40,5 %, export - 0,4 %.

On January-April 2020 the export of non-oil gas products, compared to January-April 2019, increased in actual price by 5,8 %, while in real terms it decreased by 12,9 % and made 548,9 million USD.

According to the State Customs Committee data, 38,1 % of export value was formed based on goods exported to Italy, 16,1 % - Turkey, 4,9 % – Israel, 4,5 % – India, 3,6 % – Greece, 3,1 % – Russia, 3,0 % – Croatia, 2,7 % – Ukraine, 2,6 % - Czech Republic, 2,5 % – Georgia, 2,3 % – Tunisia, 1,9 % – Portugal, 1,8 % – Germany, 1,5 % – Spain, and the rest 11,4 % - other countries.

The share of goods sent to Russia (33,9%), Turkey (22,3%), Georgia (10,7%), Switzerland (8,8%), China (3,3%), Ukraine (2,4%), Italy (2,3%), Kazakhstan (1,8%), Iran (1,4%), Belarus (1,2%), USA (1,2%), Germany (1,1%) was prevailed in export value on non-oil products.

18,1% of total value of goods imported to our country was per the share of Russia, 14,9% – Turkey, 12,6% - China, 9,6% - USA, 5,3 % – Germany, 4,4% – Italy, 4,3 % – Ukraine, 2,8% – Iran, 2,2% – UK, 1,9% – Japan, 1,7% – France, 1,6% – Korea and 20,6% - other countries.

On January-April 2020 compared to January-April 2019 export of main types of products like fresh vegetable increased by 17,2%, sugar – 10,9%, vegetable oils – 2,0 times, potato – 33,3%, tea – 17,8%, fruit and vegetable cans – 6,1%, margarine, other mixtures fit for food – 1,8 times, polyethylene – 33,3%, ferrous metal pipes – 1,6 times, while export of fresh fruit decreased by 32,8%, fruit and vegetable juice – 4,0%, tobacco – 27,8%, natural grape wine and cellar – 62,7%, cotton fiber – 22,8%, cotton yarn – 2,1%, unprocessed aluminum – 23,5%, %, bentonite clay – 18,6.

On January-April 2020 compared to January-April 2019 import of fresh fruit increased by 14,6 %, vegetable oils – 17,4%, butter other milk fats and pastas – 30,1%, tea – 4,3%, beef – 21,7%, fresh vegetable – 20,5%, motor cars – 50,8%, medical products – 1,7 times, steel rolling – 52,3%, ferrous metal rods – 48,2%, mineral fertilizers – 3,0%, computing machinery, blocks and installations – 32,8%, domestic trucks – 7,6%, polyethylene – 1,2%, washing machines – 5,1%, busses - 30,2%, cement and cement clinker – 8,5%, domestic refrigerators – 19,4%, while import of wheat decreased by 46,1%, potato – 2,7%, raw sugar and sugar – 51,2%, poultry meat and its additional products – 12,7%, tobacco – 77,6%, ferrous metal pipes – 10,5%, rubber tires – 9,5%, furniture – 10,1%, ferrous metal corners – 2,4%, air conditioners – 62,5%.
