Foreign trade relations
In January-May 2021 legal and natural entities of the Republic of Azerbaijan realized trade operations with their partners in 169 countries of the world, goods were exported to 100 countries and imported from 156 countries.
Taking into account value of statistically estimated exported crude oil and natural gas registered in the customs agencies but customs formalities of which not completed the foreign trade turnover of the country in January-May 2021 made 11957,6 million USD. 7564,7 million USD or 63,3% of trade turnover made the export value, 4392,9 (36,7%) million USD – import value and consequently positive trade balance reached to 3171,8 million USD. In comparison with January-May 2020 foreign trade turnover increased in actual price by 21,3%, while decreased in real terms by 10,2%, including import – 13,4%, export - 7,8%.
In January-May 2021 the export of non-oil gas products, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, increased in actual price by 25,8%, in real terms by 11,9% and made 907,6 million USD.
According to the State Customs Committee data, 36,8% of export value was formed based on goods exported to Italy, 16,3% - Turkey, per 4,7% - India and Georgia, 4,6% - Spain, 3,9% – Russia, 3,7% - Israel, per 2,6% - Ukraine, Portugal and Tunis, 2,4% - Croatia, per 1,8% - UK and Thailand, 1,7% - Belarus, 1,6% - China, 1,2% - Switzerland and the rest 7,0% - other countries.
The share of goods sent to Russia (30,8%), Turkey (28,1%), Switzerland (10,0%), Georgia (7,6%), USA (3,2%), China (1,9%), Ukraine (1,6%), Turkmenistan (1,6%), Kazakhstan (1,2%), Uzbekistan (1,2%), UK (1,0%), Belgium (1,0%) was prevailed in export value on non-oil gas products.
17,5% of total value of goods imported to our country was per the share of Russia, 15,0% – Turkey, 12,7% - China, 6,6% – Germany, 4,4% - USA, 4,0% – Ukraine, per 3,5% – Iran and Italy, 2,7% - UK, per 2,0% – Korea and Japan, 1,7% - France, 1,6% - Brazil, 1,5% – India, 1,2% - Belarus and 20,1% - other countries.
In January-May 2021 compared to the corresponding period of previous year export of main types of products like fresh fruit increased by 51,6%, sugar – 2,2 times, vegetable oils – 43,3%, fruit and vegetable juice – 15,1%, fruit and vegetable cans – 23,6%, natural grape wine and cellar – 14,5%, cotton fiber – 2,1 times, cotton yarn – 1,6 times, while export of fresh vegetable decreased by 27,3%, potato – 11,5%, tea – 22,8%, tobacco – 54,2%, margarine, other mixtures fit for food – 29,4%, polyethylene – 10,9%, unprocessed aluminum – 25,9%, ferrous metal pipes – 1,7%, bentonite clay – 1,7%.
In January-May 2021 compared to January-May 2020 import of wheat increased by 14,7%, raw sugar and sugar 0,8%, potato – 14,7%, tea – 6,7%, fresh vegetable – 46,5%, motor cars – 1,6 times, medical products – 0,4%, computing machinery, blocks and installations – 13,1%, rubber tires – 1,6 times, domestic trucks – 2,1 times, furniture – 24,6%, air conditioners – 28,5%, washing machines – 32,1%, domestic refrigerators – 24,7%, while import of vegetable oils decreased by 9,1%, fresh fruit - 1,4%, butter, other milk fats and pastas – 6,6%, poultry meat and its additional products – 38,0%, beef – 41,7%, cigarettes – 0,1%, ferrous metal pipes – 37,2%, steel rolling – 50,7%, mineral fertilizers – 40,6%, ferrous metal rods – 66,3%, polyethylene – 46,5%, ferrous metal corners – 29,0%, busses - 28,2%, cement and cement clinker – 44,4%.
