Social security in the country
As of July 1, 2021, 1214,1 thousand pensioners (1257,4 thousand as of July 1, 2020) were registered in the State Social Protection Fund, which is 12,1 percent of the country's population. 58,8 percent of them receive old-age pensions, 29,5 percent - for disability and 11,7 percent – for the loss of the head of the family. The average monthly pension increased by 10,4 percent compared to the corresponding period of previous year, by 8,8 percent compared to the beginning of current year and amounted to 328,8 manats, and it was equal to 45.4 percent of the average monthly salary.
In order to further strengthen the social protection of pensioners in the country, the insurance part of all types of labor pensions was indexed and increased from January 1, 2021 in accordance with the annual growth rate of average monthly nominal salary by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 2491 dated February 5, 2021 “On indexation of labor pensions”.
Besides, in order to ensure the social protection of the population, various categories of people are provided with various types of monthly social benefits. As of July 1, 2021, 109,2 thousand people (98,7 thousand - as of July 1, 2020) receive age-related benefits, 158,5 thousand people (accordingly 183,2 thousand) - for disability, 48,8 thousand people (48,3 thousand) – for the loss of the head of the family, 54,4 thousand (63,7 thousand) children under 18 years of age receive benefits for disabilities, 23,7 thousand people (29,1 thousand) - other types of benefits.
At the same time, monthly allowances are paid to 232 guardians of orphans and children without parental care. In addition, monthly benefits were provided for 13,3 thousand children to 8,7 thousand families of different categories of persons, for 9,2 thousand children to 2,4 thousand women with more than five children and compensation was paid to 341 people injured as a result of occupational injuries or occupational diseases.
During first six months of current year, except those financed by contributions for compulsory state social insurance, lump-sum benefits were provided to 32,9 thousand families for the birth of 33,6 thousand children, for the treatment of 3,9 thousand people affected by radiation accidents, and to 3,2 thousand people upon release from penitentiary institutions.
As of July 1, 2021, 264,1 thousand members of 62,0 thousand low-income families received targeted state social assistance and its average monthly amount per capita was 60,06 manats.
Besides, as of July 1 of current year, 296,8 thousand people from different categories were awarded with the scholarship of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
