Foreign trade relations
In 2021 legal and natural entities of the Republic of Azerbaijan realized trade operations with their partners in 188 countries of the world, goods were exported to 120 countries and imported from 174 countries.
Taking into account value of statistically estimated exported crude oil and natural gas registered in the customs agencies but customs formalities of which not completed the foreign trade turnover of the country in 2021 made 35556,4 million USD. 23850,6 million USD or 67,1 percent of trade turnover made the export value, 11705,8 (32,9 percent) million USD – import value and consequently positive trade balance reached to 12144,8 million USD. In comparison with 2020 foreign trade turnover increased in actual price by 46,9%, in real terms by 5,0%, including export – 17,0% while import decreased by 10,0%.
In 2021 the export of non-oil gas products, compared to the corresponding period of previous year, increased in actual price by 47,2%, in real terms by 38,4% and made 2713,4 million USD.
According to the State Customs Committee data, 41,6% of export value was formed based on goods exported to Italy, 12,7% - Turkey, 4,1% - Russia, 4,0% - Israel, 3,4% - Croatia, 3,0% – Georgia, 2,9% - Germany,2,7% - India, per 2,6% Portugal and Tunis, 2,5% - Spain, 2,0% - Ukraine, 1,9% - Greece, 1,8% - UK, 1,3% - Belarus, per 1,2% - Switzerland and Czech Republic, 1,0% -, Canada and the rest 7,5% - other countries.
The share of goods sent to Russia (32,3%), Turkey (24,9%), Switzerland (8,3%), Georgia (5,8%), USA (2,8%), Brazil (2,7%), Ukraine (2,0%), Italy (1,9%), Kazakhstan (1,5%), the Netherlands (1,5%), Iran (1,3%), China (1,3%), Belgium (1,2%), Turkmenistan (1,1%), Uzbekistan (1,0%) was prevailed in export value on non-oil gas products.
17,7% of total value of goods imported to our country was per the share of Russia, 15,8% – Turkey, 14,0% - China, 5,4% – Germany, 4,0% – Ukraine, 3,8% - USA, 3,6% – Italy, 3,4% – Iran, 2,3% - UK, 2,2% – Japan, 1,9% – Korea, 1,7% - Brazil, 1,6% - Switzerland, 1,5% France, 1,2% – India, 1,1% - Belarus, 1,0% - Vietnam, and 17,8% - other countries.
In 2021 compared to the corresponding period of previous year export of main types of products like fresh fruit increased by 20,2%, potato – 13,5%, fruit and vegetable juice – 7,2%, tobacco – 9,8%, fruit and vegetable cans – 18,4%, natural grape wines and grape juice – 15,9%, cotton fiber – 26,0%, polyethylene – 25,9%, polypropylene - 32,3%, mineral fertilizer – 4,6 times, cotton yarn – 2,0 times, ferrous metal rods – 1,6 times, semi-finished ferrous metals – 3,6 times, cement clinkers – 1,6 times, ferrous metal pipes – 14,4%, bentonite clay – 3,3%, while export of fresh vegetable decreased by 20,4%, sugar – 2,5%, vegetable oils – 15,3%, tea – 17,8%, margarine, other mixtures fit for food – 21,0%, unprocessed aluminum – 19,4%.
In 2021 compared to 2020 import of raw sugar increased by 1,9 times, fresh fruit – 1,1%, chocolate and chocolate products - 11,5%, bakery confectionery - 21,4%, potato – 17,7%, poultry meat and its additional products – 3,7%, fresh vegetable – 12,4%, cars – 1,7 times, computing machinery, blocks and installations – 3,9%, trucks – 53,1%, rubber tires – 29,7%, furniture – 29,3%, washing machines – 14,8%, busses – 2,7%, household air conditioners – 6,1%, domestic refrigerators – 52,6%, while import of wheat decreased by 15,9%, vegetable oils – 6,8%, butter, other milk fats and pastas – 10,5%, tea – 0,1%, beef – 41,4%, cigarettes – 41,4%, medical products – 1,7%, steel rolling – 30,0%, ferrous metal pipes – 16,6%, synthetic detergents – 0,1%, ferrous metal rods – 63,3%, mineral fertilizers – 62,9%, polyethylene – 22,4%, ferrous metal corners – 23,8%, polypropylene - 32,0%.
