Current state of tourism
According to the State Border Service data, in January-April 2022 Azerbaijan received 330,6 thousand or 2,0 times more foreigners and stateless persons from 151 countries of the world compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. 26,2 percent of the arrivals were citizens of the Russian Federation, 25,3 percent – Turkey, 14,7 percent – Iran, 6,1 percent – Georgia, 3,2 percent – Ukraine, 2,6 percent - Saudi Arabia, 2,4 percent - United Arab Emirates, per 1,9 percent – India and Pakistan, 1,5 percent – Kazakhstan, 1,3 percent – Kuwait, 1,2 percent - Great Britain, 11,7 percent – other countries. 80,3 percent of the arrivals were men and 19,7 percent were women.
In comparison with the same period of the last year, the number of arrivals from Oman increased by 496,5 times, Kuwait – 138,4 times, Saudi Arabia – 138,3 times, Bahrain – 54,6 times, United Arab Emirates – 46,3 times, Pakistan – 30,4 times, India – 18,4 times, Israel – 7,3 times, USA – 5,9 times, Kazakhstan – 4,1 times, France – 3,5 times, Germany – 3,4 times, Ukraine – 2,5 times, Great Britain – 2,3 times, Turkey – 1,9 times, Iran – 1,8 times, Russian Federation – 1,6 times, Georgia – 14,4 times.
Compared to January-April 2021, the number of arrivals from the EU member countries increased by 2,7 times and amounted to 16,0 thousand persons, from Gulf countries increased by 2,6 times and amounted to 73,2 thousand persons, from CIS countries it increased by 1,8 times and amounted to 110,7 thousand persons.
52,0 percent of foreigners and stateless persons who arrived to our country used air transport, 46,0 percent – railway and automobile, and 2,0 percent – water transport.
The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveling abroad increased by 2,5 times compared with January-April 2021 and amounted to 400,2 thousand persons. The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveling to Iran increased by 4,7 times, Turkey – 2,6 times, Georgia – 2,1 times, the Russian Federation - 1,9 times. 45,5 percent of the country citizens traveled to Turkey, 16,7 percent – Russian Federation, 13,1 percent - Iran, 8,2 percent – Georgia and 16,5 percent to other countries. 67,1 percent of the travelers were men and 32,9 percent were women.
In January-April 2022, 56,7 percent of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited foreign countries used air, 40,6 percent – railway and automobile, and 2,7 percent – water transport.
