Current state of tourism
According to the State Border Service data, in January-August 2022 Azerbaijan received 1004,0 thousand or 2,3 times more foreigners and stateless persons from 173 countries of the world compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. 26,2 percent of the arrivals were from Russian Federation, 19,8 percent – Türkiye, 11,0 percent – Iran, 7,9 percent – Saudi Arabia, 4,7 percent – Georgia, 3,2 percent –Pakistan, 2,7 percent – India, 2,5 percent – United Arab Emirates, per 1,9 percent – Ukraine and Kazakhstan, per 1,6 percent – Israel and Kuwait, 1,5 percent – Oman, 1,4 percent – Ozbakistan, 1,2 percent – Great Britain, 10,9 percent – were citizens of other countries. 74,2 percent of the arrivals were men and 25,8 percent were women.
In comparison with the same period of last year, the number of arrivals from Saudi Arabia increased by 407,0 times, Kuwait – 167,1 times, Oman – 148,8 times, Pakistan – 27,3 times, India – 15,1 times, Israel – 6,2 times, Bahrain – 6,0 times, Kazakhstan – 5,8 times, United Arab Emirates – 5,7 times, USA – 3,5 times, Germany – 3,0 times, France – 2,6 times, Great Britain – 2,0 times, Türkiye – 1,8 times, Iran – 1,7 times, Ukraine – 1,7 times, Russia – 1,7 times, Georgia – 23,2 percent.
Compared to January-August 2021, the number of arrivals from Gulf countries increased by 3,5 times and amounted to 254,1 thousand persons, from EU member countries increased by 2,4 times and amounted to 49,0 thousand persons, from the CIS countries it increased by 1,8 times and amounted to 335,5 thousand persons.
The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan going abroad increased by 1,8 times compared with January-August 2021 and amounted to 983,0 thousand persons. The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveling to Iran increased by 3,4 times, Türkiye – 1,8 times, Georgia – 1,8 times, Russia – 1,2 times. 48,0 percent of the country citizens traveled to Türkiye, 17,0 percent - Russia, 11,4 percent - Iran, 8,4 percent – Georgia and 15,2 percent to other countries. 63,9 percent of the travelers were men and 36,1 percent were women.
