According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, 5768 or 31,7 percent of 18223 criminal cases recorded in January-June 2022 were related to the illicit trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances, which is 39,2 percent more in comparison with the same period of 2021. 59,9 percent of them was illegal purchase, storage, preparation, processing, transportation of drugs or psychotropic substances in excess of their personal consumption without the purpose of sale, 35,4 percent the same actions for sale, as well as the production, shipping or illegal sale of these substances, 3,6 percent cultivating illegal crops containing drugs, 1,0 percent illicit trafficking of highly potent or toxic substances for sale and 0,1 percent other crimes.

During the reporting period, 4036 offenders were detained for the illicit trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances, 33,1 percent of them were previously prosecuted. 99,0 percent of offenders were prosecuted, 1,0 percent of them were exempted from criminal responsibility according to the law.

73,2 percent of people who committed a crime were those never worked and studied, 2,7 percent were women. 0,2 percent of the offenders were children aged 14-17, 7,6 percent young people aged 18-24, 17,5 percent           25-29, and 74,7 percent 30 and older.

Furthermore, in the first half of the current year, 915 people who committed an administrative offense on this issue were brought to administrative responsibility, which is 35,4 percent more in comparison with the corresponding period of 2021.

In January-June 2022, 2540,7 kilograms or 14,9 percent less drugs and psychotropic substances were confiscated in comparison with the same period of last year. Drugs and psychotropic substances withdrawn from illegal circulation were 1256,0 kilograms heroin, 873,8 kilograms marijuana, 268,2 kilograms opium, 11,4 kilograms hashish, hashish oil and resin, 0,3 percent cocaine, 131,0 kilograms other drugs and powerful means.
