Current state of tourism
According to the State Border Service data, in January-February 2023 Azerbaijan received 232,5 thousand or 1,5 times more foreigners and stateless persons from 148 countries of the world compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. 32,4 percent of the arrivals were from the Russian Federation, 21,0 percent – Türkiye, 9,2 percent – Iran, 5,7 percent – Georgia, 3,8 percent – India, per 3,1 percent – United Arab Emirates and Pakistan, 1,9 percent – Kuwait, 1,8 percent – Saudi Arabia, 1,7 percent Kazakhstan, per 1,5 percent – Ukraine and Belarus, 1,4 percent – Uzbekistan, 1,3 percent – Turkmenistan, 10,6 percent – were citizens of other countries. 77,5 percent of the arrivals were men and 22,5 percent were women.
In comparison with the same period of the previous year, the number of arrivals from Pakistan increased by 7,2 times, India – 6,7 times, Uzbekistan – 5,8 times, Turkmenistan – 5,1 times, Belarus – 4,3 times, China – 3,6 times, Kazakhstan – 2,4 times, Israel – 1,9 times, Oman – 1,8 times, United Arab Emirates – 1,8 times, USA – 1,7 times, Kuwait – 1,6 times, Georgia – 1,5 times, Russian Federation – 1,5 times, Great Britain – 1,5 times, Türkiye – 33,4 percent, Ukraine – 8,8 percent, Iran – 7,8 percent.
Compared to January-February 2022, the number of arrivals from the CIS countries increased by 1,6 times and amounted to 93,4 thousand persons, from EU member countries increased by 1,4 times and amounted to 9,5 thousand persons, from Gulf countries it increased by 19,8 percent and amounted to 40,6 thousand persons.
35,1 percent of foreigners and stateless persons who came to our country used railway and automobile, 63,4 percent – air, 1,5 percent – water transport.
The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan going abroad increased by 18,3 percent compared to January-February 2022 and amounted to 218,0 thousand persons. The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveling to Georgia increased by 1,5 times, Türkiye – 15,9 percent, Russian Federation – 8,4 percent, while the number of citizens traveling to Iran decreased by 15,5 pecent. 39,7 percent of the country citizens traveled to Türkiye, 22,8 percent – Russian Federation, 9,9 percent – Georgia, 8,4 percent - Iran and 19,2 percent to other countries. 70,0 percent of the travelers were men and 30,0 percent were women.
In January-February 2023, 29,7 percent of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited foreign countries used railway and automobile, 67,8 percent – air, 2,5 percent – water transport.
