Current state of tourism
According to the State Border Service data, in January-September 2023 the Republic of Azerbaijan received 1535,8 thousand or 32,1 percent more foreigners and stateless persons from 184 countries of the world compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. 31,0% of the arrivals were from the Russian Federation, 17,8% – Türkiye, 7,5% – Iran, 5,0% – India, 4,8% – Georgia, 4,3% – Saudi Arabia, 2,7% - Kazakhstan, 2,5% – Pakistan, 2,0% – United Arab Emirates, 1,8% - Uzbekistan, 1,7% - Israel, per 1,5% – Kuwait and Ukraine, 1,4% – Belarus, 1,2% – Turkmenistan, per 1,1% – China and Great Britain, 11,1% – were citizens of other countries. 69,7% of the arrivals were men and 30,3% were women.
In comparison with the same period of the previous year, the number of arrivals from China increased by 8,2 times, South Korea – 3,4 times, Turkmenistan – 2,9 times, India – 2,1 times, Poland – 2,0 times, Kazakhstan – 1,9 times, Tajikistan – 1,9 times, Egypt – 1,8 times, Philippines – 1,8 times, Kyrgyzstan – 1,8 times, Bahrain – 1,6 times, Belarus – 1,6 times, Moldova - 1,6 times, Uzbekistan – 1,6 times, Spain – 1,6 times, Italy – 1,6 times, Russian Federation – 1,5 times, USA – 41,4%, Canada – 41,1%, Israel – 34,6%, Georgia – 31,7%, the Netherlands – 30,2%, Great Britain – 26,3%, Kuwait – 24,0%, France – 23,2%, Germany – 20,6%, Türkiye – 20,0%, United Arab Emirates – 11,6%, Ukraine – 8,6%.
Compared to January-September 2022, the number of arrivals from the CIS countries increased by 1,6 times and amounted to 619,2 thousand persons, from EU member countries increased by 39,5 percent and amounted to 77,8 thousand persons, from Gulf countries it decreased by 9,3% and amounted to 257,1 thousand persons.
72,2% of foreigners and stateless persons arriving in our country used air, 26,5% - railway and car, and 1.3% - sea transport.
The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan going abroad increased by 24,7% compared to January-September 2022 and amounted to 1384,8 thousand persons. The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveling to Russian Federation increased by 49,5%, Georgia - 31,7%, Türkiye – 17,5%, while the number of citizens traveling to Iran decreased by 17,0%. 44,6% of the country citizens traveled to Türkiye, 21,2% – Russian Federation, 9,0% – Georgia, 7,4% - Iran and 17,8% to other countries. 65,0% of the travelers were men and 35,0% were women.
In January-September 2023, 68,6% of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who visited foreign countries used air, 28,9% railway and car, and 2,5% sea transport.
