Foreign trade relations

In January 2021 legal and natural entities of the Republic of Azerbaijan realized trade operations with their partners in 122 countries of the world, goods were exported to 61 countries and imported from 117 countries.

Taking into account value of statistically estimated exported crude oil and natural gas registered in the customs agencies but customs formalities of which not completed the foreign trade turnover of the country in January 2021 made 2242,4 million USD. 1454,9 million USD or 64,9% of trade turnover made the export value, 787,5 (35,1%) million USD – import value and consequently positive trade balance reached to 667,4 million USD. In comparison with January 2020 foreign trade turnover decreased in actual price by 5,7%, in real terms by 10,1%, including import – 12,3%, export - 9,1%.

In January 2021 the export of non-oil gas products, compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, increased in actual price by 3,8%, while in real terms it decreased by 12,9% and made 146,1 million USD.

According to the State Customs Committee data, 44,5% of export value was formed based on goods exported to Italy, 9,0% - Turkey, 8,5% - Spain, 7,1% - Ukraine, 6,7% - India, 6,6% - China, 3,8% - Croatia, 2,8% – Russia, 2,1% - Romania, 1,9% - Israel, 1,8% - Portugal, 1,4% - Georgia, 1,3% – Australia, 0,6% - Switzerland and the rest 1,9% - other countries.

The share of goods sent to Turkey (36,1%), Russia (29,3%), Switzerland (6,9%), Georgia (4,4%), China (2,9%), USA (2,5%), Italy (2,2%), Ukraine (2,2%), Germany (1,4%), UK (1,3), Iran (1,1%), Japan (0,9%) was prevailed in export value on non-oil gas products.

14,6% of total value of goods imported to our country was per the share of Russia, 14,5% – Turkey, 13,9% - China, 11,5% – Germany, 5,7% - USA, 3,7% - Ukraine, 3,6% – Iran, 2,8% - UK, 2,7% - Italy, 1,7% – Japan, per 1,5% – Korea, Poland and India, per 1,3% - the Netherlands and France and 18,2% - other countries.

In January 2021 compared to the corresponding month of previous year export of main types of products like fresh fruit increased by 5,4%, sugar – 2,7 times, fruit and vegetable juice – 1,9 times, tea – 2,2 times, natural grape wine and cellar – 3,8 times, potato – 2,8%, cotton fiber – 42,6%, cotton yarn – 9,5%, bentonite clay – 12,7%, while export of fresh vegetable decreased by 33,9%, vegetable oils – 46,2%, fruit and vegetable cans – 18,2%, margarine, other mixtures fit for food – 25,5%, tobacco – 81,0%, polyethylene – 16,8%, unprocessed aluminum – 16,3%, ferrous metal pipes – 21,9%.

In January 2021 compared to January 2020 import of fresh fruit increased by 36,8%, raw sugar and sugar – 2,6 times, butter, other milk fats and pastas – 6,3%, potato – 10,8%, fresh vegetable – 4,9 times, cigarettes – 1,7 times, medical products – 2,1 times, rubber tires – 46,5%, mineral fertilizers – 10,1 times, domestic trucks – 25,7%, polyethylene – 8,3%, while import of vegetable oils decreased by 24,2%, wheat – 53,5%, tea – 46,8%, beef – 30,1%, poultry meat and its additional products – 61,0%, motor cars – 23,8%, ferrous metal pipes – 36,5%, steel rolling – 50,6%, computing machinery, blocks and installations – 8,8%, ferrous metal rods – 43,9%, busses - 13,9%, furniture – 35,6%, washing machines – 20,5%, air conditioners – 6,7%, ferrous metal corners – 46,9%, domestic refrigerators – 33,1%, cement and cement clinker – 20,6%.
