Demographic situation in Azerbaijan

The number of population recalculated based on the result of the census conducted in 2019 was 10135373 for the state of the March 1 2023 (except the population in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan where the Russian peacekeeping contingent was temporarily deployed). The number of population per square kilometer is 117 persons.

54,6% of the population is urban, 45,4% is rural residents, 49,8% is men, 50,2% is women. At present, there are 1010 women per 1000 men.

On January-February of current year 19158 newborns by country were registered by the region (city) Registration Departments of the Ministry of Justice and this indicator made 11,7% per 1,000 population. 53,2% of newborns were boys, 46,8% were girls. 610 of newborns were twins and 45 were triplets. 

11191 deaths were registered in the country during the first two months of 2023 and the rate of deaths per 1000 population decreased from 7,7 to 6,8 in comparison with the corresponding period of the last year.

On January-February of the current year 7541 marriages and 3014 divorces were registered by the region (city) Registration Departments of the Ministry of Justice and the number of marriages decreased from 5,9% to 4,6% and the rate of divorces increased from 1,5% to 1,8% per 1000 population compared to the corresponding period of the last year.
