A meeting was held between Tahir Budagov, Chairman of the State Statistical Committee and Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk, Director General of the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)

On May 2, Mr. Tahir Budagov, Chairman of the State Statistical Committee met with Ms. Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk, Director General of the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

During meeting the sides expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan and SESRIC in recent years. It was noted that short-term training programs on a number of areas of official statistics were organized for employees of statistical agencies of member countries within the framework of the Statistical Capacity Building Program (StatCaB) implemented by SESRIC for OIC members, and that based on these program the employees of the Committee benefited from the experience of Türkiye in the sphere of dissemination of statistical data, the metadata, management of statistical production process, the use of information technology in the production of official statistics, etc. Furthermore, it was emphasized that the employees of the Committee participated as trainers in the trainings organized for employees of statistical agencies of other member countries related to information society, labour statistics and quality management system.

It was noted that new directions of cooperation between two organizations according to the “Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the field of statistics between the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries” approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated April 16, 2021. It was emphasized that implementation of the Memorandum will greatly contribute to the further development and improvement of the official statistical system of the Republic of Azerbaijan, statistical capacity building through exchange of statistical data, study visits and seminars, and strengthening cooperation.

Ms. Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk, Director General of the SESRIC thanked Mr. Tahir Budagov for the cordial meeting and noted the favourable results of cooperation with the State Statistical Committee in all directions, expressed her satisfaction with the active participation of the Committee in the events organized by SESRIC, and brought to the attention that relevant necessary measures will continue to be taken within the framework of the Memorandum.

Later, the sides exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
