According to Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 5 May 2007 regarding to changes and additions to the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on “Youth policy”, the youth are persons aged 14-29 years old.
The care for youth which makes 22,6 per cent of the country population is the important part of the state policy. The Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on “Youth policy” was adopted in 2002, “State Program on youth of Azerbaijan” was confirmed in 2005, 2011 and 2017 and “2015–2025 Azerbaijani Youth Development Strategy” was confirmed in 2015.
Taking into account that the problems of youth, being one of the priority issues of national policy, are in the focus of the country's leadership and with the aim of providing statistical information to relevant structures and the public, the State Statistical Committee regularly publishes a statistical issue "Youth of Azerbaijan".
The statistical publication “Youth of Azerbaijan–2024” includes following sections: demographic indicators, health care and sport, education and science, employment and unemployment, leisure, households consisting of young families, offences.
Demographic indicators section covers distribution of youth by sex and age groups and by regions, ethnic groups by sex, reproduction and age-specific birth rates, number of live births by age of mothers and birth order, live births by officially married and unmarried women, life expectancy, deaths by sex and age groups, marriages, divorces, migration and etc.
Health care and sport section reflects information on morbidity of youth with neoplasm, active tuberculoses, alcoholism, drug addiction and drug abuse by sex and age, distribution of abortions by age groups, distribution of youth recognized as disable for the first time by main diseases, sport equipments, medals earned by Azerbaijan sportsmen and engagement in different kind of sport and etc.
Education and science section contains information on educational attainment of the population, number of students in secondary specialized and higher educational institutions, number of students got doctor's degree, number of researchers in scientific institutions and etc.
Employment and unemployment section reflects information on economically active population based on results of statistical surveys about economic activity of the population, distribution of employed and unemployed by sex, educational attainment and age groups, distribution of economically inactive population by sex and age groups, number of youth provided with job and received unemployment status by state employment agency.
Leisure section contains information on main indicators of public libraries and concert organizations activities, number of museums, clubs, professional theatres and recreation centers, distribution of films by countries of origin, number of attendees of the recreation places and etc.
Households consisting of young families section includes information on number of households consisting of young couple (wife and husband aged 15-29) by regions of the country, consumption expenditures, availability of durable goods in households with head aged under 30 years old, distribution of households by type of property, accomodation and number of rooms.
Offences covers information about types of crime committed by youth and number of youth aged 14-29 years old committing crimes related with drugs.
In the cases of using statistics it should be reffered to the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
