Workshop on Migration Statistics held in Chisinau, Moldova
Deputy Head of Department of Population and Gender Statistics of the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan Khalig Nasibov participated in the Work Session organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and Eurostat jointly a Work Session on Migration Statistics, under the work programme of the Conference of European Statisticians held on 10-12 September 2014 in Chişinău, in partnership with the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova.
The main purpose of the Work Session was to allow countries to exchange experiences on the methods and techniques used for the collection, processing and dissemination of data related to international migration statistics, as well as to improve measurement of the size, characteristics, and impact of international migration in the UNECE region and beyond. Experts of CIS countries (Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan and Ukraine), as well as of Georgia, Lithuania and Italy Statistical bodies, CIS Statistical Committee, UNECE, Eurostat, ILO and Moscow State University participated in the workshop. Totally 32 persons participated in the first workshop.
The Work Session addressed the following substantive topics: Experiences from 2010 round of censuses for measuring migration; Use of administrative data sources to measure migration; Measurement of “hard-to-count” migrant groups, such as emigrants, temporary migrants and circular migrants; Migration by duration and by reason: definitional and methodological issues; Emerging issues and methodologies for the measurement of migration; Integration and attitudes towards migrants.
