Twinning project "Support to the State Statistical Committee in harmonisation of the National Statistics System of the Republic of Azerbaijan in line with European standards" completed

A conference dedicated to the closing ceremony of the twinning project " Support to the State Statistical Committee in harmonisation of the National Statistics System of the Republic of Azerbaijan in line with European standards" was held in Baku on November 24.
Chairman of the State Statistical Committee of Republic of Azerbaijan Tahir Budagov welcomed the participants of the conference. He said that as a result of the successful implementation of the national model of development under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev and the consistent implementation of political and economic reforms, today independent Azerbaijan has joined the rapidly developing world. The high indicators achieved in the political, economic, social, cultural and many spheres are considered to be factors that demonstrate the dynamic development of our country. The main source of information is official statistics for the preparation of all these events that give impetus to the sustainable development of our state, and the practical outcome of the successful implementation of the development strategy. It is a clear example of reforms that have boosted the development of official statistics in recent years, enhancing the national statistical system, enhancing the legal framework of the statistical system and elaborating and implementing national statistical classifications, setting up a National Accounts System, creating and improving new statistical areas and methodologies, important measures have been taken in the direction of paying, development of electronic statistics, reducing the burden on businessmen, and increasing the efficiency of the production of official statistical materials. Tahir Budagov said that the goal of the second Twinning project which covers 5 components was to improve dissemination of statistics through statistical quality management system and geographic information system, bringing official statistics on population income and living conditions, disability and tourism into European standards.
It was noted that the Federal Statistics Office of Germany and the National Institute of Statistics of Bulgaria acted as the main partners of the Twinning project, which lasted two years and today is considered one of the successful projects. Along with these countries, 35 highly qualified experts from EU member states, including the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Croatia and Latvia, participated as Twinning project experts. 64 experts from the State Statistical Committee participated in the project, 37 missions of the international experts to our country and 14 study visits of the Committee’s experts to these countries were organized.
Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev, Head of the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Kestutis Yankauskas, Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population Salim Muslumov, President of the National Statistics Institute of Bulgaria Sergey Tsvetarski, Chairman of the Committee on Economic Policy, Industry and Entrepreneurship of Milli Majlis Ziyad Samadzade, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Azerbaijan Michael Kindsgrab, Chairman of the State Agency for public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Inam Kerimov, Director General of the Statistics Office of Lithuania Vilija Lapeniene made the opening remarks.
At the end, the responsible officer of the Federal Bureau of Statistics of Germany, made a report on the work done by the EU Member State project Ringo Raupach twinning project.
