Current state of tourism
According to the State Border Service data, in 2022 Azerbaijan received 1602,3 thousand or 2,0 times more foreigners and stateless persons from 178 countries of the world compared to the previous year. 27,9 percent of the arrivals were from the Russian Federation, 19,5 percent – Türkiye, 10,6 percent – Iran, 6,0 percent – Saudi Arabia, 5,1 percent – Georgia, 3,8 percent – India, 3,2 percent –Pakistan, 2,6 percent – United Arab Emirates, 1,9 percent – Kazakhstan, 1,7 percent – Ukraine, 1,6 percent – Uzbekistan, 1,5 percent – Israel, 1,4 percent – Kuwait, per 1,2 percent – Oman and Belarus, 10,8 percent – were citizens of other countries. 74,8 percent of the arrivals were men and 25,2 percent were women.
In comparison with 2021, the number of arrivals from Oman increased by 20,4 times, Pakistan – 17,5 times, Saudi Arabia – 10,9 times, India – 10,6 times, Kuwait – 9,9 times, Uzbekistan – 6,2 times, Kazakhstan – 4,4 times, Israel – 3,6 times, USA – 2,8 times, United Arab Emirates – 2,4 times, Germany – 2,4 times, France – 2,1 times, Great Britain – 1,9 times, Russian Federation – 1,7 times, Ukraine – 1,6 times, Türkiye – 1,6 times, Iran – 36,0 percent, Georgia – 31,2 percent.
Compared to 2021, the number of arrivals from Gulf countries increased by 2,3 times and amounted to 357,9 thousand persons, from EU member countries increased by 2,1 times and amounted to 73,3 thousand persons, from the CIS countries it increased by 1,9 times and amounted to 569,8 thousand persons.
The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan going abroad increased by 1,5 times compared to 2021 and amounted to 1489,5 thousand persons. The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveling to Iran increased by 3,1 times, Georgia – 1,7 times, Türkiye – 1,4 times, Russian Federation – 12,9 percent. 44,0 percent of the country citizens traveled to Türkiye, 18,0 percent – Russian Federation, 13,6 percent - Iran, 8,6 percent – Georgia and 15,8 percent to other countries. 64,2 percent of the travelers were men and 35,8 percent were women.
