HLG-MOS Workshop on the Modernization of Official Statistics was conducted

On 21-22 November 2023, Yusif Yusifov, Deputy Chairman of the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated in the High-Level Group for the Modernisation of Official Statistics (HLG-MOS) Workshop held by the UNECE in Geneva.

During the workshop a special session on the introduction to artificial intelligence in official statistics and an open discussion panel on innovation and modernisation at the international and regional levels were organized, projects implemented by the HLG in 2023 and their results, including “cloud” technologies for official statistics, mutual cooperation on data governance, meta-academic activities for modernization of statistics, as well as the project proposals for 2024 were discussed.  The best practices of diversification and integration of data sources for official statistics, increasing confidence in statistics and creating strategic communication values, open sources, increasing flexibility in modernisation and supporting joint activities to reduce costs, and the introduction to artificial intelligence for data production were shared. Furthermore, information was provided on the latest achievements and forthcoming tasks of the HLG’s modernisation subgroup on Thinking Network, data science, capabilities and communications, as well as the results of expert meetings on collecting and disseminating official statistics and confidentiality.
