Current state of tourism
According to the State Border Service data, in January-November 2023 the Republic of Azerbaijan received 1893,0 thousand or 29,8 percent more foreigners and stateless persons from 186 countries of the world compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. 30,5% of the arrivals were from the Russian Federation, 18,1% – Türkiye, 7,9% – Iran, 5,3% – India, 4,9% – Georgia, 4,0% – Saudi Arabia, 2,8% - Kazakhstan, 2,6% – Pakistan, 1,9% - Uzbekistan, 1,8% – United Arab Emirates, per 1,5% - Israel and Ukraine, 1,4% – Kuwait, 1,3% – Belarus, per 1,2% – Turkmenistan and China, 1,1% - Great Britain, 11,0% – were citizens of other countries. 70,1% of the arrivals were men and 29,9% were women.
In comparison with the same period of the previous year, the number of arrivals from China increased by 7,0-fold, South Korea – 3,4-fold, Turkmenistan – 2,5-fold, Kazakhstan – 1,9-fold, India – 1,9-fold, Poland – 1,9-fold, Egypt – 1,8-fold, Kyrgyzstan – 1,8-fold, Tajikistan – 1,8-fold, Bahrain – 1,7-fold, Philippines – 1,6-fold, Italy – 1,6-fold, Spain – 1,5-fold, Moldova - 1,5-fold, Uzbekistan – 49,8%, Belarus – 48,3%, Russian Federation – 42,9%, Canada – 41,2%, USA – 38,1%, Kuwait – 30,3%, Georgia – 28,9%, France – 26,4%, the Netherlands – 25,9%, Israel – 24,4%, Great Britain – 24,0%, Türkiye – 20,6%, Germany – 18,4%, Ukraine – 12,0%, United Arab Emirates – 7,8%.
Compared to January-November 2022, the number of arrivals from the CIS countries increased by 47,1% and amounted to 758,3 thousand persons, from EU member countries increased by 40,7 percent and amounted to 97,4 thousand persons, from Gulf countries it decreased by 5,4% and amounted to 312,8 thousand persons.
71,7% of foreigners and stateless persons arriving in our country used air transport, 27,0% - railway and car, and 1.3% - sea transport.
The total number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan going abroad increased by 25,5% compared to January-November 2022 and amounted to 1709,4 thousand persons. The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveling to Russian Federation increased by 1,5-fold, Georgia - 32,8%, Türkiye – 21,9%, while the number of citizens traveling to Iran decreased by 25,8%. 44,0% of the country citizens traveled to Türkiye, 21,3% – Russian Federation, 9,0% – Georgia, 7,6% - Iran and 18,1% to other countries. 65,1% of the travelers were men and 34,9% were women.
In January-November 2023, 67,8% of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who visited foreign countries used air transport, 29,8% railway and car, and 2,4% sea transport.
