Current state of tourism
According to the State Border Service data, in 2023 the Republic of Azerbaijan received 2085,8 thousand or 30,2 percent more foreigners and stateless persons from 187 countries of the world compared to the previous year. 30,0% of the arrivals were from the Russian Federation, 18,1% – Türkiye, 7,9% – Iran, 5,6% – India, 5,0% – Georgia, 3,9% – Saudi Arabia, 2,8% - Kazakhstan, 2,6% – Pakistan, 2,2% – United Arab Emirates, 1,9% - Uzbekistan, 1,5% – Ukraine, per 1,4% - Kuwait and Israel, 1,3% – Belarus, 1,2% – Turkmenistan, 1,1% - China, 1,0% - Great Britain, 11,1% – were citizens of other countries. 70,3% of the arrivals were men and 29,7% were women.
In comparison with 2022, the number of arrivals from China increased by 6,5-fold, South Korea – 3,3-fold, Turkmenistan – 2,3-fold, India – 1,9-fold, Kazakhstan – 1,9-fold, Egypt – 1,9-fold, Tajikistan – 1,8-fold, Poland – 1,8-fold, Kyrgyzstan – 1,8-fold, Bahrain – 1,7-fold, Philippines – 1,7-fold, Italy – 1,6-fold, Spain – 1,6-fold, Uzbekistan – 1,5-fold, Belarus – 48,8%, Moldova – 48,2%, Canada – 40,0%, Russian Federation – 39,9%, USA – 37,9%, Kuwait – 31,3%, France – 29,8%, Georgia – 27,1%, the Netherlands – 26,0%, Great Britain – 23,4%, Israel – 21,6%, Türkiye – 21,2%, Germany – 18,3%, Ukraine – 12,7%, United Arab Emirates – 11,4%, Pakistan – 6,7%, Jordan – 6,0%.
Compared to 2022, the number of arrivals from the CIS countries increased by 44,6% and amounted to 824,1 thousand persons, from EU member countries increased by 41,6 percent and amounted to 104,8 thousand persons, from Gulf countries it decreased by 2,1% and amounted to 350,2 thousand persons.
71,4% of foreigners and stateless persons arriving in our country used air transport, 27,3% - railway and car, and 1.3% - sea transport.
The total number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan going abroad increased by 25,5% compared to 2022 and amounted to 1868,7 thousand persons. The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveling to Russian Federation increased by 1,5-fold, Georgia - 31,8%, Türkiye – 24,3%, while the number of citizens traveling to Iran decreased by 27,7%. 43,6% of the country citizens traveled to Türkiye, 21,5% – Russian Federation, 9,0% – Georgia, 7,6% - Iran and 18,3% to other countries. 64,9% of the travelers were men and 35,1% were women.
In 2023, 67,5% of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who visited foreign countries used air transport, 30,0% railway and car, and 2,5% sea transport.
