Current state of tourism
According to the State Border Service data, in January 2024 the Republic of Azerbaijan received 165,8 thousand or 39,3 percent more foreigners and stateless persons from 152 countries of the world compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. 27,5% of the arrivals were from the Russian Federation, 19,8% – Türkiye, 9,7% – Iran, 6,1% – India, 4,9% – Georgia, 3,5% – Saudi Arabia, 2,9% - Kazakhstan, 2,7% – United Arab Emirates, 2,5% – Pakistan, 2,4% – Kuwait, 2,0% - Uzbekistan, 1,8% - Oman, 1,5% – Turkmenistan, 1,3% – Ukraine, 1,0% – Belarus, 10,4% – were citizens of other countries. 74,2% of the arrivals were men and 25,8% were women.
In comparison with the same period of the previous year, the number of arrivals from China increased by 3,9-fold, Kyrgyzstan – 3,4-fold, Bahrain – 2,7-fold, Saudi Arabia – 2,7-fold, India – 2,5-fold, Oman – 2,4-fold, Uzbekistan – 2,4-fold, Tajikistan – 2,3-fold, Kazakhstan – 2,3-fold, Philippines – 1,8-fold, Italy – 1,7-fold, Spain – 1,7-fold, Turkmenistan – 1,7-fold, Kuwait – 1,6-fold, South Korea – 1,6-fold, Jordan – 1,6-fold, Iran – 45,8%, Poland – 33,7%, Yemen – 32,2%, Moldova – 31,5%, Türkiye – 31,0%, Pakistan – 28,3%, Qatar – 26,8%, Georgia – 24,1%, France – 22,4%, Ukraine – 21,4%, United Arab Emirates – 20,4%, Belarus – 18,9%, USA – 18,7%, Egypt – 15,2%, Russian Federation – 13,4%, Germany – 13,3%.
Compared to January 2023, the number of arrivals from the CIS countries increased by 25,1% and amounted to 61,3 thousand persons, from EU member countries increased by 1,5 times and amounted to 4,7 thousand persons, from Gulf countries increased by 1,6 times and amounted to 35,1 thousand persons.
67,5% of foreigners and stateless persons arriving in our country used air transport, 31,1% - railway and car, and 1,4% - sea transport.
The total number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan going abroad increased by 35,1% compared to January 2023 and amounted to 147,7 thousand persons. The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveling to Russian Federation increased by 37,0%, Georgia - 36,9%, Türkiye – 29,3%, Iran - 23,0%. 36,6% of the country citizens traveled to Türkiye, 22,0% – Russian Federation, 10,6% – Georgia, 8,2% - Iran, 22,6% to other countries. 67,7% of the travelers were men and 32,3% were women.
In January 2024, 69,1% of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who visited foreign countries used air transport, 28,8% railway and car, and 2,1% sea transport.
