Demographic situation in Azerbaijan
From the beginning of the year number of population of the country increased by 19243 persons or 0,2% and reached to 10200013 persons for the state of the 1st July 2024. The number of population per square kilometer is 118 persons.
54,5% of the population is urban, 45,5% is rural residents, 49,8% is men, 50,2% is women. At present, there are 1009 women per 1000 men.
On January-June of current year 48702 newborns by country were registered by the region (city) Registration Departments of the Ministry of Justice and this indicator made 9,6% per 1,000 population. Proportion of boys among newborns were 53,2%, proportion of girls among newborns were 46,8%. 1622 of newborns were twins, 72 were triplets and 4 were quadruplets.
29775 deaths were registered in the country during the first half of the current year and the rate of deaths per 1000 population decreased from 6,0 to 5,9 in comparison with the corresponding period of 2023.
On January-June of the current year 22250 marriages and 10430 divorces were registered by the region (city) Registration Departments of the Ministry of Justice and the number of marriages decreased from 4,8 to 4,4 and the rate of divorces remained the same (2,1) per 1000 population compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
On the six months of the current year the relevant authorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Migration Service registered 1487 persons arrivals to Azerbaijan for permanent residence and 1171 persons departures from the country and migration positive balance made up 316 persons.
