Current state of tourism
According to the State Border Service data, in January-August 2024 the Republic of Azerbaijan received 1748,0 thousand or 30,1 percent more foreigners and stateless persons from 183 countries of the world compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. 28,7% of the arrivals were from the Russian Federation, 16,2% – Türkiye, 9,2% – India, 8,1% – Iran, 4,4% – Saudi Arabia, 4,0% – Georgia, 3,3% – Kazakhstan, 2,8% – Pakistan, 1,8% - United Arab Emirates, 1,7% - Uzbekistan, 1,5% – China, per 1,4% – Ukraine and Kuwait, per 1,2% - Israel, Turkmenistan and Oman, 1,0% – Belarus, 10,9% – were citizens of other countries. 66,8% of the arrivals were men and 33,2% were women.
In comparison with the same period of the previous year, the number of arrivals from India increased by 2,4-fold, South Korea – 2,2-fold, China – 2,0-fold, Spain – 1,8-fold, Kyrgyzstan – 1,6-fold, Philippines – 1,6-fold, Kazakhstan – 1,6-fold, Pakistan – 1,5-fold, Jordan – 1,5-fold, Oman – 49,6%, Iran – 42,1%, Italy – 35,0%, Poland – 33,7%, Saudi Arabia – 31,4%, Turkmenistan – 30,3%, Yemen – 28,1%, Egypt – 26,7%, Kuwait – 23,8%, USA – 21,6%, Uzbekistan – 20,9%, Ukraine – 18,9%, Türkiye – 18,8%, Germany – 18,6%, Russian Federation – 17,7%, France – 12,6%, Georgia – 10,9%, Moldova - 10,9%, Tajikistan – 10,8%, Bahrain – 10,5%, United Arab Emirates – 10,1%.
Compared to January-August 2023, the number of arrivals from Gulf countries increased by 34,5 percent and amounted to 307,2 thousand persons, from EU member countries increased by 27,5 percent and amounted to 67,9 thousand persons, from the CIS countries increased by 20,5% and amounted to 663,6 thousand persons.
75,6% of foreigners and stateless persons arriving in our country used air transport, 23,2% - railway and car, 1,2% - sea transport.
The total number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan going abroad increased by 20,6% compared to January-August 2023 and amounted to 1458,6 thousand persons. The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveling to Iran increased by 36,3%, Russian Federation - 16,0%, Georgia - 14,9%, Türkiye – 14,8%. 42,2% of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveled to Türkiye, 20,5% – Russian Federation, 8,7% – Georgia, 8,4% - Iran, 20,2% to other countries. 63,9% of the travelers were men and 36,1% were women.
In January-August 2024, 69,8% of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who visited foreign countries used air transport, 28,1% railway and car, 2,1% sea transport.
