Current state of tourism
According to the State Border Service data, in January 2025 the Republic of Azerbaijan received 172,6 thousand or 4,1 percent more foreigners and stateless persons from 152 countries of the world compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. 24,0% of the arrivals were from the Russian Federation, 18,3% – Türkiye, 9,9% – India, 8,7% – Iran, 5,0% – Georgia, 3,6% – Saudi Arabia, per 3,2% – United Arab Emirates and Kazakhstan, 3,1% – Pakistan, 2,2% - Kuwait, per 1,7% – Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, 1,5 – China, 1,4% – Ukraine, 1,2% - Israel, 1,1% - Oman, 10,2% – were citizens of other countries. 71,9% of the arrivals were men and 28,1% were women.
In comparison with the same period of the previous year, the number of arrivals from Israel increased by 3,9-fold, China – 2,2-fold, Tajikistan – 2,1-fold, Spain – 1,9-fold, India – 1,7-fold, Jordan – 1,7-fold, Egypt – 42,9%, the Netherlands – 30,4%, Kyrgyzstan – 27,2%, Pakistan – 25,6%, USA – 23,7%, Yemen – 21,5%, United Arab Emirates – 20,4%, Turkmenistan – 16,7%, Kazakhstan – 15,5%, France – 13,9%, Italy – 11,7%.
Compared to January 2024, the number of arrivals from EU member countries increased by 7,3 percent and amounted to 5,1 thousand persons, from Gulf countries decreased by 5,4 percent and amounted to 33,2 thousand persons, from the CIS countries decreased by 4,8% and amounted to 58,4 thousand persons, and from other countries increased by 17,3% and amounted to 75,9 thousand persons.
71,5% of foreigners and stateless persons arriving in our country used air transport, 26,4% - railway and car, and 2,1% - sea transport.
The total number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan going abroad increased by 4,3% compared to January 2024 and amounted to 154,1 thousand persons. The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveling to Iran increased by 36,5%, Georgia - 15,1%, Türkiye – 2,9%, while the number of citizens traveling to Russian Federation decreased by 27,3%. 36,1% of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveled to Türkiye, 15,4% – Russian Federation, 11,7% – Georgia, 10,7% - Iran, 26,1% to other countries. 67,1% of the travelers were men and 32,9% were women.
In January 2025, 67,7% of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who visited foreign countries used air transport, 29,8% railway and car, and 2,5% - sea transport.
