Meeting on improvement of information provision of activities of national statistical services of CIS member states has been held
On June 3–5, 2025, the Interstate Statistical Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States held a meeting in Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan, on “Improving the information provision of the activities of national statistical services of CIS member states”, within the framework of the “Development of CIS Statistics” project. Deputy Chairman of the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan Yusif Yusifov and Head of the Department of Information Technologies Chimnaz Aliyeva attended the event.
During the meeting, issues such as the application of modern information technologies and artificial intelligence in official statistics, the technology for developing open data, their dissemination and use, the role of metadata prepared in accordance with international standards in the integration of information resources and in the management of statistical production, the use of the Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange (SDMX) standard in data collection, exchange, and dissemination, as well as the preparation of a catalogue of statistical indicators were discussed, and country experiences were shared.
At the event, a presentation titled “Information Technologies in Statistical Production and Electronic Statistical Services for Users: The Experience of Azerbaijan” was delivered, providing participants with detailed information about the technological innovations implemented in recent years in the Republic of Azerbaijan in the areas of data collection, processing, and dissemination. It was noted that currently, all official statistical reports in Azerbaijan are submitted online in electronic format, data are automatically verified, processed, and statistical bulletins are prepared. Statistical information resources and systems are stored in the “Government Cloud” (G-cloud), and their security is ensured. At the same time, information was provided about the electronic services offered by the State Statistical Committee and the statistical data dissemination system “Azerbaijan Statistical Information Service – ASIS”, developed within the framework of cooperation with the Statistics Korea. It was emphasized that the main advantage of ASIS is its user-oriented approach. In ASIS, users can generate tables and time series in real time based on official statistical data available in the database, visualize the data using graphs, print, and save them as needed. The presentation was met with interest, and participants’ questions were answered.
