In January-May 2025 legal and natural entities of the Republic of Azerbaijan realized trade operations with their partners in 161 countries of the world, goods were exported to 103 countries and imported from 153 countries.

Taking into account value of statistically estimated exported crude oil and natural gas registered in the customs agencies but customs formalities of which not completed, the foreign trade turnover of the country in January-May 2025 made 20269,1 million USD. 10304,3 million USD or 50,8% of trade turnover made the export value, 9964,8 million USD (49,2%) – import value, and consequently positive trade balance reached to 339,5 million USD. In comparison with January-May 2024, foreign trade turnover increased in actual prices by 12,6% and decreased in real terms - 1,1%. Import increased in real terms by 10,3%, while export decreased by 8,8%.

In January-May 2025 the export of non-oil-gas products made 1407,5 million USD and compared to January-May 2024 it increased by 11,6% in actual prices and decreased by 11,4% in real terms.

According to the State Customs Committee data, 25,5% of foreign trade turnover of the country was with Italy, 10,3% – Russia, 8,4% – China, 3,2% - Germany, 2,6% - USA, 2,5% - United Kingdom, 2,2% - Kazakhstan, 2,0% each with Croatia and Romania, 1,7% each with Greece, Australia and Switzerland, 1,6% each with the Czech Republic and Georgia, 1,5% each with Bulgaria and Portugal, 1,2% - Iran, 1,0% each with Mexico, Uzbekistan and Ukraine, 0,9% each with Japan and the Netherlands, while 12,3% of the trade operations were with other countries.

46,6% of exports represented the value of products shipped to Türkiye, 4,1% to Russia, 3,7% to Croatia, 3,5% to Romania, 3,0% to Greece, 2,8% each to Portugal, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic, 2,7% to Germany, 2,5% to Georgia, 1,7% to Switzerland,  1,3% to the United Kingdom, 1,2% each to the Netherlands and Ireland, 0,9% to Serbia, 0,8% to Ukraine, 0,7% each to Thailand and Indonesia, 0,5% to Denmark, 0,4% each to the United Arab Emirates and Kazakhstan, 2,7% to other countries.

In the value of non-oil and gas product exports, the share of goods shipped to Russia (31,5%), Türkiye (17,9%), Switzerland (9,1%), Georgia (8,9%), Ukraine (5,4%), Kazakhstan (3,2%), the United Arab Emirates (3,1%), the USA (2,2%), Belarus (2,1%), Uzbekistan (1,2%), Turkmenistan (1,3%), Italy (1,2%), China (1,2%), Germany (1,1%), Canada (1,0%), Estonia (1,0%) predominated.

17,3% of the total value of imported goods to the country originated from China, 17,2% from Russia, 10,2% from Türkiye, 5,2% from USA, 4,2% from Kazakhstan, 3,9% from Germany, 3,8% from the United Kingdom, 3,6% from Australia, 2,5% from Iran, 2,2% from Mexico, 2,1% from Italy, 2,0% from Uzbekistan, 1,7% each from Japan and Switzerland, 1,6% each from Brazil and South Africa, 1,5% each from Korea and Belarus, 1,4% from Canada, 1,2% from Ukraine, and 13,6% from other countries.

In January-May 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year export of main types of products increased as follows: fresh fruits by 35,3%, fresh vegetables by 5,7%, potato by 65,5%, sugar by 41,7%, vegetable oils by 28,3%, mineral fertilizers by 27,2%, cement clinkers by 31,0%, ferrous metal pipes by 54,8%, cotton yarn by 23,6%, while the export of fruit and vegetable juices decreased by 22,2%, fruit and vegetable cans by 5,9%, tobacco by 53,1%, tea by 1,3%, margarine and other edible mixtures by 37,9%, natural grape wines and grape must by 44,4%, cotton fiber by 9,5%, polypropylene by 9,6%, polyethylene by 5,4%, electricity by 27,2%, unprocessed aluminum by 5,9%, ferrous metal rods by 44,2%, and bentonite clay by 10,1%.

In January-May 2025 compared to January-May 2024 import of wheat increased by 55,4%, butter, other dairy fats and pastes by 10,2%, raw sugar by 50,1%, potatoes by 20,1%, tea by 22,8%, fresh vegetable by 32,6%, cigarettes by 2,6-fold, passenger cars by 22,1%, household air conditioners by 28,6%, ferrous metal rods by 37,4%, rubber tires by 28,0%, trucks by 0,1%, mineral fertilizers by 0,7%, furniture by 0,2%, polyethylene by 12,8%, buses by 2,1-fold, polypropylene by 7,7%, household refrigerators by 7,1%, while the import of fresh fruit decreased by 16,2%, chocolate and chocolate products by 2,6%, vegetable oils by 38,4%, flour confectionery by 6,6%, poultry and its by-products by 8,3%, beef by 20,1%, pharmaceuticals by 16,3%, rolled steel by 0,8%, ferrous metal pipes by 26,4%, computing machinery, blocks and installations by 11,7%, synthetic detergents by 9,8%, washing machines by 6,7%, ferrous metal corners by 5,2%, cement by 7,2%.
