Demographic situation in Azerbaijan

From the beginning of the year number of population of the country increased by 16833 persons or 0,2% and reached to 10241722 persons for the state of the 1st July 2025. 54,4% of the population is urban, 45,6% is rural residents, 49,8% is men, 50,2% is women. On the first six months of the current year 45616 newborns by country were registered by the region (city) Registration Departments of the Ministry of Justice and in comparison with the corresponding period of previous year this indicator decreased from 10,2% to 9,7% per 1,000 population. Proportion of boys among newborns were 53,3%, proportion of girls among newborns were 46,7%. 1510 of newborns were twins, 63 were triplets. 29400 deaths were registered in the country on January-June of the current year and the rate of deaths per 1000 population decreased from 5,9 to 5,8 in comparison with the corresponding period of 2024. On the first half of 2025 24815 marriages and 10350 divorces were registered by the region (city) Registration Departments of the Ministry of Justice and the number of marriages increased from 4,4 to 4,9 and the number of divorces decreased from 2,1 to 2,0 per 1000 population compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. On January-June of 2025 the relevant authorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Migration Service registered 1709 persons arrivals to Azerbaijan for permanent residence and 1092 persons departures from the country and migration positive balance made up 617 persons.
