Current state of tourism
According to the State Border Service data, in January-August 2025 the Republic of Azerbaijan received 1720.5 thousand or 1.6 percent less foreigners and stateless persons from 182 countries of the world compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. 25.5% of the arrivals were from the Russian Federation, 16.9% – Türkiye, 7.8% – Iran, 7.3% – India, 4.6% – Saudi Arabia, 4.1% – Georgia, 4.0% – Kazakhstan, 3.4% – Pakistan, 2.4% - China, 2.2% - Uzbekistan, 2.1% - Israel, 1.8% - United Arab Emirates, 1.4% - Ukraine, per 1.2% – Turkmenistan and Kuwait, 1.0% - Belarus, 13.1% – were citizens of other countries. 66.2% of the arrivals were men and 33.8% were women.
In comparison with the same period of the previous year, the number of arrivals from Tajikistan increased by 1.9-fold, Israel – 1.7-fold, Japan – 1.5-fold, China – 1.5-fold, Jordan – 48.7%, Kyrgyzstan – 32.9%, Uzbekistan – 27.8%, Kazakhstan – 19.4%, Pakistan – 17.2%, Canada – 17.1%, the Netherlands – 16.5%, Germany – 15.0%, USA – 14.5%, Italy – 12.7%, Great Britain – 10.6%,.
Compared to January-August 2024, the number of arrivals from EU member countries increased by 7,5 percent and amounted to 73,0 thousand persons, from Gulf countries decreased by 6,3 percent and amounted to 287,8 thousand persons, from the CIS countries decreased by 6,1% and amounted to 600,9 thousand persons, and arrivals from other countries increased by 3,5%, reaching to 758,8 thousand persons.
76,0% of foreigners and stateless persons arriving in our country used air transport, 22,6% - railway and car, and 1,4% - sea transport.
The total number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan going abroad decreased by 2,7% compared to January-August 2024 and amounted to 1419,2 thousand persons. The number of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveling to Georgia increased by 23,7%, Iran – 1,5%, while the number of citizens traveling to Russian Federation decreased by 30,0%, Türkiye – 4,4%. 41,9% of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan traveled to Türkiye, 14,8% – Russian Federation, 11,0% – Georgia, 8,8% - Iran, 23,5% to other countries. 63,6% of the travelers were men and 36,4% were women.
In January-August 2025, 70,5% of the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who visited foreign countries used air transport, 27,5% railway and car, and 2,0% - sea transport.
