The 3rd International Statistical Forum on “Prospects of Statistics: The Role of International Projects” has Started

In Baku, the 3rd International Statistical Forum on the topic “Prospects of Statistics: The Role of International Projects” and the next meeting of the Council of Heads of Statistical Services of the CIS member states chaired by Azerbaijan are being held.

Forum participants first visited the Alley of Honor to pay tribute to the memory of the founder of modern independent Azerbaijan, our National Leader Heydar Aliyev, and laid a wreath at his grave. The memory of the prominent ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva, was also honored. Afterwards, the participants commemorated the heroic sons of the Motherland who gave their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan at the Martyrs’ Alley and laid a wreath at the “Eternal Flame” monument.

At the opening ceremony of this prestigious international event, Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov read the address of President Ilham Aliyev to the Forum participants. He emphasized that the Forum, being held on the eve of World Statistics Day, carries great importance in strengthening our country’s international image, fostering the development of mutual relations in the field of statistics, expanding bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and showcasing Azerbaijan’s achievements in socio-economic, cultural, and political spheres.

Following this, Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Denis Trefilov, Chairman of the Interstate Statistical Committee of the CIS Konstantin Laykam, Chairman of the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan Tahir Budagov, Director of the Statistics Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Tiina Luige, and Head of the Global International Comparison Program of the World Bank Marko Olavi Rissanen delivered speeches. They noted the special significance of the Forum in bringing together representatives of statistical institutions of various countries, international organizations, and academic circles, in exchanging advanced knowledge and experiences in the field of statistics, identifying new goals, as well as promoting joint projects, integrating into global statistical initiatives, and deepening international cooperation.

The three-day Forum will discuss issues such as the System of National Accounts–2025, the International Comparison Program based on purchasing power parity of currencies, the 2030 round of population and housing censuses, monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as sectoral and multi-sectoral projects. The effectiveness of projects related to information technologies, integration of statistical data, institutional decisions, and the development of competence in statistics will also be assessed.

During the meeting of the Council, discussions will be held on its activities over the past three years, the implementation status and prospects of the “Development of CIS Statistics” project, as well as other issues.
