Foreign trade relations
In January-August 2025 legal and natural entities of the Republic of Azerbaijan realized trade operations with their partners in 173 countries of the world, goods were exported to 112 countries and imported from 167 countries. Taking into account value of statistically estimated exported crude oil and natural gas registered in the customs agencies but customs formalities of which not completed, the foreign trade turnover of the country in January-August 2025 made 31690,6 million USD. 16637,9 million USD or 52,5% of trade turnover made the export value, 15052,7 million USD (47,5%) – import value, and consequently positive trade balance amounted to 1585,2 million USD. In comparison with January-August 2024, foreign trade turnover increased in actual prices by 4,9% and decreased in real terms - 7,1%. Import decreased in real terms by 5,5%, export by 8,2%. In January-August 2025 the export of non-oil-gas products made 2399,5 million USD and compared to January-August 2024 it increased by 10,3% in actual prices and decreased by 13,6% in real terms. According to the State Customs Committee data, 25,9% of foreign trade turnover of the country was with Italy, 12,0 – Türkiye, 10,4% – Russia, 9,2% – China, 3,2% - Germany, 2,9% - United Kingdom, 2,5% - USA, 2,2% - Czech Republic, 1,7% each with – Kazakhstan, Georgia and Bulgaria, 1,6% each with Croatia and Romania, 1,5% - Greece, 1,4% - Switzerland, 1,3% - Iran, 1,2% each with Portugal and Australia, 1,0% - Ukraine, 0,9% each with Uzbekistan, Mexico, the Republic of South Africa and Belarus, 12,2% of the trade operations were with other countries.

46,7% of exports represented the value of products shipped to Italy, 13,4% to Türkiye, 4,8% to Russia, 3,8% to Czech Republic, 3,1% to Bulgaria, 2,9% to Croatia, 2,7% each to Germany and Romania, 2,6% each to Greece and Georgia, 2,3% to Portugal, 1,6% to Switzerland, 1,4% to the United Kingdom, 1,0% to Ireland, 0,9% to Ukraine, 0,8% to the Netherlands, 0,6% each to Serbia and Tunisia, 0,4% each to Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Kazakhstan and China, 3,5% to other countries. In the value of non-oil and gas product exports, the share of goods shipped to Russia (33,9%), Türkiye (16,4%), Switzerland (9,2%), Georgia (9,0%), Ukraine (5,5%), the United Arab Emirates (3,0%), Kazakhstan (2,7%), Belarus (2,2%), the USA (1,9%), Uzbekistan (1,8%), Turkmenistan (1,7%), Italy (1,2%), China (1,1%) predominated. 19,1% of the total value of imported goods to the country originated from China, 16,8% from Russia, 10,3% from Türkiye, 5,0% from USA, 4,6% from the United Kingdom, 3,8% from Germany, 3,2% from Kazakhstan, 2,6% from Iran, 2,5% from Australia, 2,2% from Italy, 1,9% from Mexico, 1,8% from the Republic of South Africa, 1,7% from Brazil, 1,6% each from Uzbekistan and Japan, 1,5% each from Korea and Belarus, 1,2% each from Switzerland and Ukraine, 1,1% from France, 1,0% each from Spain, India and Canada, and 11,8% from other countries. In January-August 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year export of main types of products increased as follows: fresh fruits by 38,9%, fresh vegetables by 14,7%, sugar by 69,9%, potato by 47,0%, cigarettes by 15,1%, vegetable oils by 19,5%, tea by 0,6%, polypropylene by 2,1%, mineral fertilizers by 4,4%, polyethylene by 8,6%, unprocessed aluminum by 32,9%, cement clinkers by 26,7%, cotton yarn by 25,9%, ferrous metal pipes by 3,1%, while the export of fruit and vegetable juices decreased by 0,7%, fruit and vegetable cans by 14,5%, tobacco by 52,8%, margarine and other edible mixtures by 23,3%, natural grape wines and grape must by 31,0%, cotton fiber by 7,2%, electricity by 9,7%, ferrous metal rods by 38,9%, and bentonite clay by 11,0%. In January-August 2025 compared to January-August 2024 import of wheat increased by 31,0%, raw sugar by 17,6%, chocolate and chocolate products by 0,1%, potato by 20,0%, fresh vegetable by 35,8%, cigarettes by 3,8%, passenger cars by 28,8%, rolled steel by 6,2%, household air conditioners by 17,6%, rubber tires by 6,0%, polyethylene by 14,6%, ferrous metal rods by 11,0%, %, buses by 2,9-fold, polypropylene by 1,0%, household refrigerators by 15,2%, while the import of butter, other dairy fats and pastes decreased by 5,4%, vegetable oils by 12,1%, fresh fruits by 15,4%, flour confectionery by 3,4%, tea by 9,2%, poultry and its byproducts by 26,3%, beef by 8,5%, pharmaceuticals by 15,0%, ferrous metal pipes by 23,1%, computing machinery, blocks and installations by 9,2%, shoes by 4,5%, trucks by 1,8%, furniture by 1,0, synthetic detergents by 6,8%, mineral fertilizers by 8,5%, washing machines by 0,8%, ferrous metal corners by 3,0%, cement by 21,6%.
